Site User Guide

Welcome to the pain information site user guide. This guide is intended to help you use and navigate through the site, allowing you to find the information you need.

Main navigation

The left hand menu is the main tool for navigating through the site. It lists all of the sections, and subsections throughout the site. Clicking on a section will take you to the home page of that section which will introduce you to the subject. If there are any sub sections they will appear underneath the section name.

The above shows the 'How do we feel pain?' section being opened, revealing the sub section 'Detailed Information' underneath it.

Breadcrumbs

The 'Breadcrumbs' appear at the top of each page, just below the 'Site Search' and Heading. 'Breadcrumbs' help you to see, at a glance, which section and page you are currently viewing. In every case the 'Breadcrumbs' begin with 'home' - This is the home page of the whole Pain information site.

After that the Breadcrumbs will show which section or subsection you are in, and which page you are on (the page is always at the end of the 'Bread crumbs' and is highlighted in black.). Each section or subsection listed in the 'Breadcrumbs' is also a link to the homepage of that section or subsection, allowing you to retrace your steps through the site quickly.

In the above example the current page is called 'Activation of sensory nerves' within the subsection 'Detailed information' which is itself within the section 'How do we feel pain'.

Terminology popups

Some parts of the site use technical terminology to explain a subject in more detail. For your convenience we have included a site 'Glossary' which can be accessed at any time by clicking on the 'Glossary' link in the main, left hand navigation. In addition to this, any word appearing in the glossary is displayed as a link and, when clicked, will display the relevant definition from the Glossary.

In this example the word 'Nociceptor' has been highlighted as a link. Clicking this link has prompted the box to open containing the Nociceptor definition from the Glossary page. To close this box simply click the 'Close' link or the 'X' button in the top right hand corner of the box.

Text Size

Included on every page of the site is the 'Text Size' tool which will enable you to increase or decrease the size of the type face on the site.

There are four settings available as indicated by the different sizes of the letter 'A'. The highlighted 'A' indicates your current selection.
